Brian Rooney was born in Northeast Philadelphia at Holy Redeemer Hospital into the well-known Rooney Family. The Rooney’s are owners of the Pittsburgh Steelers. His grandfather Arthur Joseph Rooney Sr. (January 27, 1901 – August 25, 1988), often referred to as “The Chief”, was the founding owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers, an American football franchise in the National Football League (NFL), from 1933 until his death. Brian’s father, Patrick Rooney, Sr owned and operated Liberty Bell Racetrack in Northeast Philadelphia in the 1970’s and 80’s. Brian Rooney currently sits on the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Board of Directors.
Brian played four years of football as a student-athlete on a NCAA Division III football team at Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts; his football team went undefeated in his senior year.
After receiving his undergraduate degree from Williams College, Brian went to law school at the Florida State University, College of Law. He graduated with honors from law school and was admitted to the bar in several states. While at law school, Brian attended Officer Candidates School for the U.S. Marine Corps where he earned a commission in the USMC as an officer. Brian was in the USMC for 8 years. He is an Iraq War veteran. More recently, Brian was appointed by the Michigan Governor to the Department of Human Services as a Senior Deputy Director from 2011 until 2014.
On July 1, 2016, Brian bought Suburban Marble and Granite from his father-in-law, John Menarde, Sr.
Brian is married to his lovely wife, Tiffany, and they have 4 children.
